I get a lot of questions about how to join hexagons with
the join-on-the-go method. Time for a tutorial.
Here we go.
The basic pattern for the african flower hexagon can be found
in english here >> and in swedish here >>
To use the join-on-the-go method, you need to change the middle dc on each
side of the hexagon into a chain stitch. This will give you 12 points to join
the hex’s together. One point in each of the six corner and one point
at each of the hexagons sides. You can see it in the picture above.
You will make the joining on the last row of the hexagon pattern (the dc row).
When you reach one corner you make the chain stitch around the
chain stitch in the corner of the other hexagon.
Put the hook through the “hole” at the corner, get the yarn with the
hook and pull the yarn through…
… and through the loop on the hook, to form a chain stitch around the corner.
Make 4 dc along the side, and then join again with the next chain stitch.
Make again 4 dc along the side, and again join with a chain stitch in the corner.
Tadaa! - You have now joined two hexagons together.
The join-on-the-go method can also be used for granny squares.
As a granny square has three chain stitches at each corner to make them square,
when joining at the corners you need to make one chain stitch, join with one chain stitch,
and then one chain stitch again. Don’t forget about the extra chain stitches!
Along the sides just join with one chain stitch same as with the hexagons.
This is how your finished result will look like. Neat isn’t it ?!

verkligen samrt att virka ihop rutorna sådär.jag har några rut-project som jag tänkt virka ihop först då alla rutor är färdiga,men det verkar bli knepigt och nu har jag tagit paus från dem.

Perfekt med bilder på hur man ska göra!! Tack! Nu har jag ju virkat alla mina blommor klart, har t.o.m. sytt ihop dem till strängar... Tror nästan jag river upp det jag sytt ihop och virkar ett extra varv på varje blomma för att då virka ihop dem så här. Blommorna blir då ett varv större, men detta skulle väl nog fungera i alla fall!?!
SvaraRaderaGreat tutorial. When I first tried this a while ago on my Gypsy blanket I did it from underneath (picking up the thread from under instead of the top)and tehn I unraveled everything to do it this way instead. This technique makes the joining much neater. Thanks MiA

Hej! Jättebra tutorial. Brukar kolla in på din blogg då och då och titta på allt fint du gör. En liten fråga bara... Jag förstår hur du virkar ihop de första blommorna/rutorna men hur gör du när du kommer med nästa som ska fästas intill? I själva hörnet alltså? Fäster du den 2 gånger, en gång i vardera av de andra två? Tacksam för svar!
SvaraRaderaSjälv har jag en halvfärdig väska med African Flower som ligger därhemma, nu är det foder och handtag kvar. Hur brukar du göra med handtag till dina fina väskor? Man vill ju inte att de ska dras ut för mycket på längden, och det känns svårt med hur man ska fästa det i själva väskan.

Wow, this is a great joining method. I did some seat coverings out of granny squares and had a hard time joining them together. Can't wait to get back to my crochet to give it a try.

SvaraRaderaSåsom granny-wheel-rutorna ser ut på mönstret så fungerar det inte att fästa ihop dem med "join-on-the-go" eftersom det inte finns några luftmaskor att haka i varandra. Vad du skulle kunna göra är att lägga på ytterligare ett varv med picoter och sedan haka picoterna i varandra på nästa ruta :)
